Synthetic-endorsement investment fraud

Synthetic-endorsement investment fraud is a scam that uses AI-generated deepfakes of public figures appearing to endorse fake trading, crypto or "AI investment" platforms.

How to recognise

The deepfake is the lure at the front of an industrialised pipeline. A fabricated clip — often styled as a news segment in which a trusted public figure "reveals" a money-making secret — directs victims to fake news articles, doctored testimonials and a polished platform. A small initial deposit is requested to avoid suspicion; then "verification" is used to harvest identity documents, so a single scam yields both money and a complete identity kit. The content is frequently localised by country and language to feel native.

Because the video can look entirely real, visual detection is no longer a reliable defence for ordinary users. The signals that still work are behavioural: guaranteed or effortless returns, celebrity or official endorsement of a trading platform, manufactured urgency, and any request for ID documents at sign-up.
